Overview

The Technical Architect Manager is a crucial player-coach role within our organization, responsible for leading a team of Technical Architects while actively contributing to projects and interfacing with upper management. This position combines hands-on technical expertise with strategic leadership to drive architectural excellence across the organization. This person will shape our technological direction, standardize practices, and ensure the successful delivery of complex projects while fostering a culture of innovation and continuous improvement.

 

Starting base pay for this role is between $146,915 and $175,000. The actual base pay is dependent upon many factors, such as transferable skills, work experience, business needs, training, location, and market demands. The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future. This role will be eligible for a bonus as well as competitive medical, dental, and vision benefits, wellness reimbursement, life insurance, and a 401(k) with company match. We offer vacation and sick leave benefits (under a flexible time off policy in most states).

Responsibilities

  • Leads and mentors a team of Technical Architects, providing guidance, support, and professional development opportunities to enhance their skills and performance in areas such as system design, software development, and infrastructure planning.
  • Responsible for daily performance management of team members, including performing team member review, evaluation, and compensation processes.
  • Develops and maintains the organization's technical architecture standards, guidelines, and best practices, ensuring alignment with business goals and industry trends.
  • Actively participates in complex projects, providing hands-on architectural expertise and guidance to solve challenging technical problems and ensure optimal solutions.
  • Oversees and guides the team in understanding organizational needs to define system specifications, plan and design technology solutions, and communicates system requirements to software development teams.
  • Manages and oversees multiple concurrent projects, ensuring they are delivered on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards.
  • Communicates effectively with stakeholders at all levels, including translating complex technical concepts for non-technical audiences and articulating project statuses and strategic initiatives to upper management.
  • Fosters strong relationships with business partners, product, development and external vendors to drive collaboration and innovation.
  • Contributes to strategic planning by aligning technology initiatives with business objectives and identifying opportunities for technological advancement and process improvement.
  • Drives innovation within the team and broader organization by staying current with emerging technologies and industry trends, and evaluating their potential application to business needs.
  • Ensures the team maintains high standards of security in all architectural designs and implementations, including regular security testing, code reviews, and training on secure coding practices.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field; Master's degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in solution architecture, with at least 3 years in a leadership role.
  • Proven expertise in multiple areas such as cloud architecture, enterprise architecture, security architecture, and data architecture.
  • Strong knowledge of various programming languages, frameworks, and architectural patterns.
  • Experience with Agile methodologies and DevOps practices.
  • Expertise in designing and implementing scalable, fault-tolerant, and event-driven/reactive architectures using microservices and modular monolith patterns.
  • Extensive hands-on experience with messaging in production environments and streaming frameworks.
  • Proficiency in MVC patterns and experience with modern SQL and NoSQL databases.
  • Knowledge of cloud technologies and serverless architectures.
  • Strong understanding of software quality assurance principles, security protocols, cryptography, authentication, authorization.
  • Excellent project management skills with a track record of delivering complex projects.
  • Outstanding communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to effectively present to all levels of the organization.
  • Demonstrated ability to think strategically and translate business requirements into technical solutions.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Relevant industry certifications such as TOGAF, AWS Certified Solutions Architect, or other AWS Cloud certifications
  • Experience leading the decoupling and refactoring of monolithic code bases
  • Experience with Single Page Application (SPA) frameworks (e.g., Angular or React)
  • Published articles or speaking engagements at industry conferences
