Overview

The Director of Product Management is responsible for the holistic view of the product portfolio strategy and execution for the respective area.  The position serves as the strategic partner for the Vice President of Product and is tasked with establishing and managing the resources and processes needed to execute the product strategy.  This role services as product expert working cross-functionality to support excellence throughout the entire product life cycle. 

 

Starting base pay for this role is between $175,000 and $222,000. The actual base pay is dependent upon many factors, such as transferable skills, work experience, business needs, training, location, and market demands. The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future. This role will be eligible for a bonus as well as competitive medical, dental, and vision benefits, wellness reimbursement, life insurance, and a 401(k) with company match. We offer vacation and sick leave benefits (under a flexible time off policy in most states).

Responsibilities

People Leadership: 

 

  • Responsible for hiring, onboarding and managing Product Managers and proactively building product and leadership skills of their team as well as supporting systems to ensure the highest performance levels. 
  • Establishes and inspects that consistent and approved Product Management best practices are followed in tight collaboration with product leader peers and other department leaders. 
  • Delegates appropriately holding Product Managers responsible for their roadmap’s thoroughness, and business impact and overall team performance and productivity. 
  • Ensures consistent adherence to best practices and processes while supporting an environment of open feedback feeding continuous improvement. 
  • Defines and performs a continuous evaluation of the team to drive success metrics demonstrating the impact of team performance.  
  • Oversees and routinely inspects and evaluates the work of Product Managers, and other team members to ensure adherence against expectations as well as validation of work supporting quality.  
  • Provides supportive leadership in guiding colleague career development, including executing the annual review process and providing ad hoc feedback and recognition. 
  • Manages team participation as well as being an active participant in regular client engagements for purposes of ideation and validation of product roadmap including but not limited to Marketing driven forums, discovery conversations, and shadowing exercises.  
  • Drives and oversees expectations of development alignment with Product Managers and Development Team Leads/Scrum masters. 

 

Product Portfolio Owner: 

 

  • Acts as the product portfolio owner, ensuring the market product roadmaps are aligned with business goals and strategy. 
  • Deeply understands the solutions being driven by each market and can communicate portfolio roadmap strategy to stakeholders, including executive leadership. 
  • Identifies and creates execution plans for cross-market and cross-division product roadmap opportunities. 
  • Ensures and facilitates cross-market sharing (i.e. Core Claims impact of claims administration for Risk clients). 
  • Communicates with deep understanding the organization’s goals and how their team has a direct impact on financial and client success goals. 
  • Identifies, drives, and manages third-party relationships to support expertise and capacity gaps as needed. 
  • Partners with Director of Development Counterpart to align portfolio roadmap vision with development portfolio execution. 
  • Ensures adherence to the approved timeline for product-oriented work to ensure high impact, and that expectations established across the organization are delivered to.  
  • Translates specific roadmap details into a perpetual visual story to energize strategic partners and clients about the business outcomes and impacts of the product plan. 
  • Oversees and manages the overall market prioritization across product lines and foreshadows and forecasts potential resource reallocations in alignment with shifts in focus or product demand.  

 

Strategic Leadership: 

 

  • Identifies and facilitates the execution of operational, strategic initiatives throughout the year.
  • Provides proactive and continuous communication of priorities, requirements, plans, and project status with key stakeholders and senior leadership. 
  • Partners with Development leadership to ensure alignment on operational processes, product output, and cross-team understanding of how work impacts market and organization goals. 
  • Acts as an escalation point for stakeholder departments and works with Product Managers to adapt backlogs and roadmaps to support accepted escalations. 
  • Actively participates in go-to-market strategy execution for new and current client initiatives helping provide a bridge from product delivery to meeting sales goals through active promotion of existing and new solutions and functionality.
  • Works effectively in an ambiguous environment and leads by example at addressing challenges head-on with curiosity and drive to resolve problems.

  • Other strategic projects as assigned. 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree – Business, liberal arts, science, or engineering; MBA a plus. 
  • 10+ years product leadership experience. 
  • Must have a thorough understanding of business and product development, relationship, and project management. 
  • Agile expertise a plus. 
  • Relevant industry experience.
