Overview

The Data Engineer will play a key role in both database management and software development, contributing to the design, optimization, and maintenance of SQL Server databases, while also supporting the software engineering team in building robust applications. This person will utilize a deep understanding of database structures, performance tuning, and SQL Server and .NET development best practices to support database management and software engineering. 

Responsibilities

  • Database Development & Management
    • Designs, implements, and maintains SQL Server databases, ensuring data integrity, security, and high performance.
    • Writes and optimizes complex SQL queries, stored procedures, triggers, and views.
    • Performs database performance tuning and optimization, including query optimization and index management.
    • Monitors database health, troubleshoot issues
    • Works with the development team to integrate databases with applications, ensuring seamless data flow.
  • Software Development & Engineering:
    • Collaborates with software engineering teams to design, develop, and deploy data-driven applications.
    • Develops and maintain software components that interact with SQL Server databases, ensuring optimal data retrieval and manipulation.
    • Applies software engineering best practices, including version control, testing, and code reviews.
    • Assists with application architecture and design, ensuring scalability and performance when working with large datasets.
  • Collaboration & Problem Solving:
    • Works closely with cross-functional teams to understand business requirements and translate them into effective database and software solutions.
    • Identifies and resolve complex database issues, performance bottlenecks, and software bugs.
    • Provides guidance and mentorship to junior developers and database administrators.

Qualifications

  • Ability to legally work in the Dominican Republic
  • Fluency in English
  • Associates degree or equivilant
  • Database Skills:
    • Extensive experience with SQL Server (2019 and beyond).
    • Strong proficiency in SQL, including complex queries, stored procedures, functions, and triggers.
    • Experience with performance tuning, indexing, and optimization.
    • Familiarity with SQL Server integration tools (SSIS, SSRS, SSAS) is a plus.
  • Software Engineering Skills:
    • Strong software development background, with expertise in at least one programming language (C#, Python, Java, or similar).
    • Experience with RESTful API development and integrating databases with web applications. Preferably .NET applications.
    • Familiarity with software development lifecycle tools (e.g., Git, Jenkins, Jira).
    • Ability to write clean, efficient, and maintainable code following best practices.
  • Other Skills:
    • Solid understanding of data modeling, database design, and normalization.
    • Familiarity with cloud platforms (Azure, AWS) and deploying databases in the cloud is a plus.
    • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.
    • Excellent communication skills and ability to work effectively in a team environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certification in Microsoft SQL Server (MCSA, MCDBA, or similar) is a plus.
  • Experience with NoSQL databases (e.g., MongoDB, Cassandra) and cloud database solutions is a plus.
  • Familiarity with Agile development methodologies and DevOps practices.
  • Familiarity with OLAP and OLTP workloads
  • Familiarity with multi-tenancy SaaS environments
